Robert Redford has addressed environmental issues for years. In 1981, he gathered a group of friends and colleagues in the mountains of Utah to create a gathering of independence & discovery-which became the Sundance Institute and now the Redford Center. A place for the discovery and development of independent artists & filmmakers joining with scientists and policymakers to discuss everything of our planet and to air environmentally themed films.
Today, his his eco-minded Sundance Resort welcomes you, annually hosts the acclaimed ‘Sundance Film Festival”, and created the Sundance Channel Network. All dedicated to environmental stewardship and the value of independent thinking with art & nature. In 2007, Time magazine named him a “Hero of the Environment.” In 2009, he was awarded the Duke LEAF award for his contribution to environmental issues through fine arts.
