About….Good Old Days Florist, New Windsor New York
An Alternative florist and…Earth store
Welcome to the online experience of our store. Nestled in the Hudson Valley region of NY and housed in a true Victorian classic; overflowing rooms of the most beautiful flowers, everything Nature, local emporium, antiques, a bit of whim, and much light of heart.
Our History
What began in 1909 as a genuine country store, was dusted off in 1977 by Dixie and revived into a “little flowers shop”; Good Old Days Florist. Today, Dixie and her daughter Lynn have brought it to a warm, eco minded store while growing up to become an innovative, professional, full service florist…. never losing its original character, warmth or charm.
The intriguing name of Good Old Days was a tribute to a Father/Grandfather who fondly and incessantly, spoke of “the good old days” to Mother and me! The perfect sentiment for the perfect setting, and so it was named. By preserving the original state of the store, and secreting away all traces of technology, the spirit of the past has been captured. Once inside, the sights and scents greet you- transporting you to another time…a florist-a place ….as they once were.
Our Thinking
2024 will find the ’little flower shop’ of the 80’s with even more fervor, excitement, and energy. Being absolute devotees of the environment and all its creatures, and coupled with art backgrounds, the business is one of the only sustainably operated, ‘eco’ florists in the United States. We use specialty grown, eco-organic/US flowers, US made giftware, planet friendly products, green packaging, and every sustainable business practice of green floristry available we possibly can.
Passions
Environmental, wildlife, & community causes are our # 1 goals, and we thus have initiated a host of programs such as our charitable, Flowers for a Cause Bouquets and Fundraising Partnerships; both funding awareness to many causes. Our Recycle Rewards program, where we are successfully reusing vases-baskets-and all sort of floral related products; saving them from our landfills.
We are activists and supportive of a multitude of wildlife and animal rescue ganizations; with a percentage of all sales given back to them.
Enjoy the site and when in the area, come enjoy our Neverland!
