Lynn Mehl and Hoot
Lynn in Sundance, Utah with “Hoot” the owl of Harry Potter fame. Yes… he is alive!
I welcome you to the online extension of my very special, country store nestled in the Hudson Valley region of NY state. Housed in a true Victorian classic, with room upon room overflowing with the most beautiful flowers, everything Nature, antiques, ribbons & more ribbons, a bit of whim, and much light of heart.

What began in 1909 as a genuine country store, was dusted off and revived in 1977 into a "little flower shop"; Good Old Days. Today, it has grown up to become a cutting edge, professional, full service florist, while never losing its original character, warmth or charm. I am such a proud parent indeed!

The intriguing name of Good Old Days was a tribute to my dear Grandfather who fondly and incessantly, spoke of “the good old days” to my Mother and me! The perfect sentiment for the perfect setting, and so it was named. Unwaveringly, I have preserved the original state of the store, and secret away all traces of 21st century technology- thus capturing the spirit of the past. Once through the door, the sights and scents greet you- transporting you to another time… a florist as they once were.

2007 finds me in the 30th year of my "little flower shop" with more fervor, excitement, and energy than my Mother and I started with. Being an absolute devotee of our environment and all its creatures, I blend the nostalgic air of the store with garden designs in “the way they grow”, natural & freeze dried flowers and gifts of Nature in all forms. From birds & nests to butterflies & bee skeps. Original & antique fixtures draped with dried garlands & bee hives; play host to spools of silk ribbons, Victoriana, vintage cards, and every assortment of new & old garden whim you may imagine. In the warmer months, a delightful mix of these treasures spill to the outdoors; only adding more interest to an already-very special place.

True creativity requires passion, which transcends excitement to you. Having a background in the environment and art, each and every design order has its own free flowing personality, using the finest flowers, accents, and interesting plants available that day- just as when I started with only a few orders per week! I now have access to absolutely the freshest & finest Holland, Italian, and California direct flowers flown to my door every week. I am thrilled to be exclusive of offering Eufloria roses-the rose of celebrities. These hydroponic grown, organic beauties are without a doubt, the most beautiful roses in the world.

Yet even with the 100's of orders, weddings, and events we now design, never still are there ever two arrangements exactly the same. Many can imitate art, but true floral artistry includes the imagination to create a “first” every time, no matter the dollar amount or variety. In keeping with my belief and vision, I encourage the same to all who are now employed with me.

Presentation is also of the utmost importance; contributing to the entire experience of receiving a gift of any kind - especially flowers.

Every order is presented just the way I myself, would love to receive or gift it - impressive signature wrap, box, or Victorian bag tied with yards & yards of ribbons - and maybe a butterfly or two. I can assure you that your purchase will be "properly primped", we fuss!

Over these years I have amassed 1000's of photographs, a complete floral & nature library, and floral memorabilia of every kind. All dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, and available to see, just for the asking. I now lecture nationally on vintage design technique, and recreate various design styles for all occasions; from my infamous Victorian, tussie mussies and shower bouquets, to the retro corsages of the 1950‘s.

My quaint “little flower shop” housed in its rambling, 100 yr. old store, has now become a much loved destination in the Hudson Valley for locals and tourists alike. I sincerely invite you to visit; step back in time, sit at the counter, and remember…..the good old days, for that they truly were.

Each and every sale contributes to my donations of over 5% yearly to a wide range of conservation, environmental, and animal/ wildlife programs.

I deeply thank you for enabling me to do this and helping to protect them.
